Bacaro

WHY Because you’re bored with most wine-bar offerings and tired of paying through the nose for a glass of wine.

WHAT On a funky block between Pico-Union and USC is a tiny haven for wine lovers, where the wines of the day are artfully written on the blackboard walls. The kitchen turns out Venetian-style cichetti (small bites), including bruschetta, crostini and such heartier dishes as a deconstructed BLT made with Niman Ranch bacon; almost all the dishes are a mere $7. Bacaro is one of those spots you wish would open within walking distance of your house, a place where enthusiasm for esoteric Italian bottlings is matched by a menu of unfussy, simply delicious snacks.

WHO Oenophiles with more taste than dough from USC and West Adams.
