WHY To support vendors like berry grower Frances Burciaga (Gutierrez Farm), who went from field hand to passionate farmer/owner.
WHAT It’s a veritable bounty: Scarborough greens, Tenerelli stone fruit, Polito citrus, Tamai corn and heirloom tomatoes, and Gonzaga Farms’ Asian veggies, lemongrass, ginger, sugarcane, fresh chickpeas, jicama (Tess will show you how to peel it properly) and delicious citrus. The non-ag stalls are worth the trip, especially J.D’s Louisiana BBQ (smoked tri-tip) and Carbon Grill Hawaiian BBQ’s gorgeous plate lunch. Opened in 2000 through a city program to bring produce to under-served communities, the market now offers a good mix of foods to a diverse clientele.
WHO Sikhs, Hassidim, carpool moms and Shuge Knight.

The hours have just changed and the market is now opening at 2:00pm every Thursday and closing at 7:30pm during daylight savings. Some of the food vendors are there by 12noon cooking and prepping for the market and they’ll serve you lunch at that time!
