Market on Holly

EatLA-1873

WHY Beautiful salads, Stumptown coffee and the best chocolate-chip cookie in town.

WHAT A little bit of San Francisco and Portland in Old Pasadena, the Market on Holly is the creation of two longtime locals, composer Marty Davich and caterer Mary Pat Brandmeyer. There’s a small market (fancy pastas, oils, local organic milk), a swell coffee bar with fabulous baked goods, a gorgeous cheese counter, a deli case, large communal tables inside and small sidewalk tables outside, where regulars come back at least weekly for the breakfast sandwich, roast pork shoulder sandwich, and the lime-cilantro or baby spinach salads. It’s packed during the Sunday farmers’ market on Holly.

WHO Locals grateful for a quality place owned by other locals in chain-packed Old Town.

Also: brown-butter rice krispie treats. The Market is one of the few places I miss now that I no longer work in Old Town.
