Moore’s Delicatessen

EatLA-1736

WHY Our favorite chicken soup in town, plus quality, classic deli fare and tasty, affordable wines and beers.

WHAT Robert Moore serves straightforward deli fare in a concrete-floored, order-at-the-counter, diner-style spot. We’re not crazy about the corned-beef sandwiches, but we love the poached eggs on toast, hearty chicken soup, veggie salad and peel-and-eat shrimp. Extras include a mini-farmers’ market of fresh produce, Little Flower candies, and meat and cheeses to take home. Check out the walls in the back room, which have been illustrated by artists from local animation studios.

I LOVE this place! Robert is one of the nicest guys around and their oatmeal is so amazing that it borders on being occult. He’s also very encouraging to artists of all medias and it’s great to be able to go into the back room and see sketches from so many talented people.

To celebrate having my traffic ticket dismissed (Yes!!), I headed one block North and stopped into Moore’s Deli. I ordered the Rare Roast Beef sandwich and a side of Coleslaw. The service was fast, friendly and the food was wonderful. The sandwich was fresh and the roast beef was generously piled on and rare as advertised. The coleslaw was also fresh tasting and nicely dressed, I’m almost positive it was made in-house. Since I had to drive back home, I couldn’t wash it down with any of the great micro-brews they offer so I’ll have to save that for my next visit. I will be back.
