WHY Low prices, good service, impeccable housekeeping and an unusual combination of mainstream American supermarket goods and a dazzling array of international foods.
WHAT In 1993, the Fermanian family opened an unusual supermarket in Anaheim and over time found great success, and they’ve expanded to L.A. with markets in Eagle Rock and Altadena. You’ll find all your supermarket needs along with an incredible (and cheap) selection of Armenian, Greek, Middle Eastern and Latin American foods: fresh and aged cheeses, sauces, yogurts, grains, prepared meats and exotic produce that’s sometimes a little over-ripe. Impressive bakery, extensive deli with fresh cheeses, and a beautiful nut bar.
WHO The most wonderful L.A. mix: An Indian woman in a gorgeous sari, a Central American family with kids in soccer uniforms, young indie couples, little old Lebanese women walking so slowly that you want to scream….
Region: San Gabriel Valley
Neighborhood: Altadena
