WHY A low-key West Hollywood tavern for discerning beer enthusiasts.
WHAT Ryan Sweeney opened the Surly Goat after making a splash in the local beer community with his first bar, the Verdugo. His new place has an impressive array of more than two dozen taps and a rotating brew on cask. Rare and fascinating beers are the norm, from the Bruery’s locally made Marron Acidifie (sour chestnut) to a few choice Belgian ales, with the focus on the west coast. Happy hour until 8 p.m. with $4 drafts makes it a good after-work stop—later in the evening it fills up with Hollywood partiers and rotating DJs. There’s no kitchen, but regulars order in from Baby Blues BBQ next door.
WHO Diehard beer aficionados and young drinkers looking for a more casual alternative to the Hollywood club scene.
