Go Go’ers, there are many situations when it’s important to hold on tight: a bar stool at 1:55 a.m., a Maserati on Mulholland Drive, and this past week on the windy streets of L.A.

If you’ve survived the gale force winds of the last few days without rolling down the street like a tumbleweed, celebrate your near escape  at these (mostly) stationary events.

Just hold on tight for fun.

Trifecta of Tastemakers

If you’re the kind of person who eats dessert first because life is just too short, dammit, you’ll want to hightail it over to Sunset Beer Company where the alchemy of suds and sweets results in Beer Float.

a.k.a. How to have your dessert and drink it too.

Golden Road Brewing will take over the taps of the cozy Sunset shop-n-pub with signature craft beers Get Up Offa That Brown, Golden Road Hefeweizen, Point the Way IPA and a special release or two.  Chunk-n-Chip delivers the artisanal ice cream via the Boo-yah truck outside.

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Beer Floats.

Think of it as Happier Hour.

More Reasons to Go East, Young (Wo)Man

So many DIY fairs are in oxymoronic venues; you go to a giant, soulless warehouse to look at lovely, small-batch, handcrafted goods.

This weekend, go for the intimate.

On Saturday, April 13, head for York Boulevard in Highland Park where sexy-fun-vintage “idea shop” Shopclass hosts the inaugural Eastside Handmade: a gathering of twenty Eastside designers and artisans curated by HLP ‘hood resident Sheryl Cancellieri.

The name says it all....

The name says it all….

The 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. market is designed to segue nicely into NELA Second Saturday. You can buy a bag or tie or bangles and show off your new goodies over dinner  before wandering the boulevard to take in art and have a drink or two.

Hey…that was easy.

 Jivin’ For Juke

There are silver-tongued devils and there are harmonica players and then there is John “Juke” Logan. who has been the best of both for over forty years on L.A.’s blues scene.

Juke has been fighting esophageal cancer for over three years and to show the harmonica god some love and raise money for esophageal cancer research, the creme de la creme of Los Angeles rock and blues musicians are kickin’ out the jams at Club Fais Do Do on Sunday afternoon, April 14th at the Blues Revue for John “Juke” Logan

It's the Juke-fest of love.

It’s the Juke-fest of love.

Warning: get the hallelujahs behind you and get ready to raise some hell.

Leading you in raising the roof are Dave Alvin, King Cotton, the Delgado Brothers,  and the Bonedaddys: only a few of the many bands performing along with special guests like Junior Watson.

Emcees Ellen Bloom, Art Martel, and Freddie Johnson are  all public radio personalities that Juke has worked with; there will be a raffle or two and a Juke-a-thon  silent auction with cool swag.

Since Juke can’t attend, the whole shebang will be recorded/streamed live so he — and you — can check it out from afar.

Or come on down so Juke not only hears the love but sees it.

Have A Grand Ole Time

It’s only been a few months since Grand Ole Echo closed for the winter but hasn’t it felt like forever?

This Sunday, April 14th, Echo Park’s  hub of homegrown happiness  kicks off its 8th season of free, weekly, all ages Americana, roots, and country shows plus the opportunity for BBQ and beer with your neighbors and friends.

Or think of it as the perfect time to make a new pal for the dance floor and beyond.

Phoebe Bridgers, The Americans, and Whispering Pines are on the Main Stage;  La Route keeps it real on the back patio.  Old timers and faithful friends of the Grand Ole Echo should note that for the season opener only, the GOE will be kicking it off in the Echoplex but will be back at the Echo as per usual on Sunday, April 21.

You’ll want to go then too.
