For moms and dads with young squirmers, a day in the park is way more relaxing than a holiday restaurant brunch, and at the Santa Monica Festival this Mother’s Day weekend, you won’t even have to pack your own picnic.
The Clover Park event is Saturday beginning at 11 a.m., just the right time for cruising the “Global Cafe” of food vendors, who’ll include Mama’s Hot Tamales, Cha Cha Chicken, King Kone, Large Market Sustainables, Let’s Be Frank and groundwork coffee, as well as purveyors of corn on the cob, roasted nuts, shave ice and other treats. The Santa Monica Farmers Market offers information and tastings, and Sustainable Works of Santa Monica will demonstrate how to make a vegan pizza on a solar oven.
Food’s not the only thing happening, of course: There’s continuous entertainment on two stages, art and other workshops for kids, and lots of environmentally friendly demos and info-sharing. Not to mention a raffle for a new bike.
Still, food shots are one category of the photo contest, which asks festival-goers to “Show Us What You’re Eating!” by posting photos to the festival Facebook page. Best pic in each category wins $50. Which could pay for your brunch.
