Robert Danhi, chef and author of Southeast Asian Flavors, is leading a series of tours through Little Saigon in Westminster. The first, this Saturday, focuses on the cuisine of northern Vietnam, and the 20 tour-takers will learn about — and, more importantly, taste — such dishes as banh tom co ngu (sweet potato and shrimp fritters); bo luc lac (soy-glazed shaking beef salad with pickled red onions); bun cha Hanoi (grilled pork patties with rice vermicelli and green payaya); café sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee); and sua chua (Vietnamese-style yogurt). All this will take place while the group explores a tofu factory, a series of small shops and markets and, finally, a Vietnamese restaurant, where Danhi will lead a cooking demonstration.
Coming up later in the fall are a tour focused on central Vietnamese cooking on October 17th and a final one on southern cuisine on November 21st.
The cost is $75 per tour or all three for $175; this includes a signed copy of Dahni’s $45 cookbook, as well as all the food and beverages on the tours.
Reservations are essential; groups are limited to 20 hungry people and are expected to sel out. Call 310.648.7970 or go to southeastasianflavors.com.
