Los Angeles seems to have a major food event at least twice a week but it shouldn’t surprise that The Taste, our homegrown, hometown event, is the ultimate dine-and-drink destination for foodies. Sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, this Labor Day weekend eating extravaganza is the perfect transition from beach to back-to-school.
Nothing like a weekend of wall-to-wall eats to make you happy that swimsuit season is over….
FIELD TO FORK Saturday, 9/1 • 11 am- 3 pm (21 and over) — Love farmer’s markets but overwhelmed by all that gorgeous produce? Get informed and inspired at the kick-off event hosted by Times Food Editor Russ Parsons and Chef Ray Garcia of FIG. Local farmers will be on hand to chat cauliflower and kohlrabi, cooking demos will utilize fresh, local ingredients to make seasonal dishes, and you can watch the pros shine via a chef’s challenge to create a winning dish using a basket full of local produce. Cook’s County, Sunny Spot, Picca, Mo-Chica, M.B. Post and Mr. Chow will be participating.
FLAVORS OF L.A. Sunday, 9/2 • 11 am – 3 pm (21 and over) – If you think global but eat local, you’ll definitely want to check out this day of international nom nom hosted by Times Restaurant Critic Jonathan Gold and Evan Kleinman: chef, author and host of KCRW’s “Good Food”. Fave L.A. chefs like Ludo Lefebvre, Susan Feniger, Kris Yengbamroong, and Ricardo Zarate will demo enticing specialties from around the world; restaurants A-Frame, Canele, STREET, The Spice Table and Wurstkuche will represent the local melting pot scene.
LABOR DAY PICNIC, PRESENTED BY TARGET. Monday, 9/3 • 11 am – 3 pm. (All ages) Whether dessert diva, grilled cheese gourmand, or PB&J aficionado, your Mini-Me will love the sammie-centric Labor Day Picnic. Times Test Kitchen Director Noelle Carter and baker/restaurateur Zoe Nathan of Milo & Olive and Huckleberry celebrate hand-held food that’s wrapped, encased, enfolded and layered from ice cream to burgers to tacos to bánh mì. Culinary star Thomas Keller (Bouchon, The French Laundry) will be on hand and there’s a firefighter cook-off as well as demos by Nancy Silverton (Mozza, La Brea Bakery), Judy Jan (Mendocino Farms, Blue Cow), and co-host Nathan. The Grilled Cheese Truck, Coolhaus, Burger Lounge, Bouchon and A Frame will add to the fun.

A portion of the ticket sales will benefit Collins College of Hospitality Management at Cal Poly Pomona and the Los Angeles Times Family Fund’s Summer Camp Campaign.
