All over town, bakers are channeling their inner Betty Crockers (whether or not they don heels and aprons to cream butter and sugar) in preparation for this Sunday’s  No Cookie Left Behind Bake Sale at Scoops Gelato in East Hollywood.
Its the fourth annual local version of the national Great American Bake Sale put on by Share Our Strength to combat childhood hunger in the U.S. Â and around here, it’s grown into a welcome-the-summer block party. Professional and home bakers and small-batch jam and pickle makers donate an abundant array of goodies (including vegan selections) and folks gather all afternoon to browse, buy and support the cause.
From 2 to 5 p.m. tables are laden with baked goods from such pros as the vegan catering/cooking class company Spork Foods, the dessert truck Whisk L.A., the cakes-to-order bakery CakeMonkey,  Silverlake’s Lark Cake Shop and others, as well as from many home bakers. Plus, jellies, jams and pickled vegetables will be on offer.
Take home what you can, but it’s inevitable that you’ll nibble on site (while buying your raffle ticket, say), so why not  “balance” your cookie or cupcake consumption with an order of fries-n’-something from Frysmith Truck, which will be on hand.
Friendly neighborhood raffle prizes are designed to appeal to foodies and friends: restaurant gift certificates, Dodger tickets, a guided tour of the set of Glee by one of the show’s producers.
