Joe Miller’s flagship restaurant in Venice recently joined the ranks of LA’s pre-fixe Sunday supper clubs with its three-course, $39 affair. To sweeten the deal, on Sundays there’s no corkage on your first two bottles (or go with the wine pairings for $18).
If you’ve never been to Joe’s, that might not sound like the best deal in town. But it’s easy to spend a spend a bit more than you intended at this Cal-French neighborhood classic — not because the prices are outlandish for the quality, but there’s always at least one more farmers’-market-inspired dish that you really, really want to try.
On Sundays, you’ll get to choose from three dishes per course (appetizer, main, dessert). Recent offerings have included a warm leek and roasted beet salad, coq au vin with farmers’ market root vegetables, and pan-roasted pike with barigoule (artichokes braised in white wine) and saffron butter. On the dessert front you can dive into something on the lighter end, maybe lemon verbena ice cream with Brooks cherries, or go for a more indulgent affair like milk chocolate creamux (custard) with apricot brûlée and candied almonds. Not bad for $39. And did we mention there is an amuse bouche, too? If you’re lucky, it might just be the lobster bisque and uni froth shooter.
