You’re saving a bundle by not going out for an inflated restaurant dinner, so why not use the savings on a kitchen appliance that will upgrade your weekend dinners in 2010 — a pasta maker, some chocolate molds or maybe a new knife? The pantry items here, such as Beluga lentils, imported Irish butter, French cheeses and artisan chocolates, will get your New Year’s dinner started. Swing by the farmers’ market on your way home for some produce, and you’ll be ready to ring it in.

Wine Expo

This wine shop may be more known today as a mecca for little-known Italian wines, but when it opened more than 15 years ago it was primarily a Champagne warehouse. The selection of bubbly is still one of the best in town. Add the artisan tequilas and beers carefully selected by resident agave-and-hops geek Erik Moreno to the mix, and you’re bound to spend more than you intended. Beer + Champagne + tequila = It’s a good thing you decided to stay home this New Year’s.
